Resident Evil
Resident Evil (Rebirth/REmake) was originally promised to be a Playstation 2 exclusive until Capcom broke the promise by signing an exclusive deal with Nintendo to port two existing Resident Evil games, remake one and write two new ones. Giving rebirth to the series of games started with Resident Evil Remake on the Gamecube back in 2002.
The game boasted an excellent storyline and the best looking graphics at the time - these graphics still give a lot of current 'next-gen' games a run for their money, the secret being pre-rendering of course, which next-gen games are not.
Plot & Influences
The plot is like nothing seen before, I guess you could say its somewhat adopted from horror movies in the terms of the zombies and genetically modified beings, but the depth of the plot is immense, with a lot of characters dying and corruption in the squad. Mix that up with a whole host of enemys from rabid dogs to huge mutants with large claws, and you've got a bone-chilling game.
You take control of Chris or Jill, both members of the S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team, to check out the mansion where Bravo team went missing a few days earlier, from the minute you touch down on the ground you lose a member to a mutant dog and are forced to take refuge in the creepy mansion.
Your job initially is to hunt for survivors, although it becomes more a case of trying to survive yourself and find a way out, and solving a lot puzzles (which no one would ever keep in their house) to break out, ranging from replacing crests to playing Moonlight Sonata on the piano.
What is fun about this game?
- Bone-chilling scary moments in both cinematics and gameplay, leading to an overall thrilling game, which is enjoyable if you get your kicks from being scared.
- Fight against a whole range of monsters from Zombies to Hunters (strange genetically modified creatures)
- Epic plot and sub-plots, there is alot of corruption going on, the Alpha leader is a traitor working for the Umbrella Corporation who makes these un-natural beings.
- Large range of inventory items for puzzles, items for killing bosses and a whole host of weaponry, even anti-tank missile launchers.
- A classic remake - the remake brings back great childhood memorys if you played the original (in all its blockiness!) on the PlayStation back in 1998. The game remains the same in terms of the plot and cinematics (although with updated graphics) and has an overall nostalgic feeling to it.
- Huge array of boss fights from venomous snakes to tyrants.
